Celebrate Theodore Roosevelt’s Legacy in the Adirondacks
TR Weekend is Newcomb's premier event, celebrating Theodore Roosevelt's remarkable journey from the High Peaks wilderness to the White House after President McKinley’s assassination in Buffalo, NY. The weekend features a wide range of events for all ages, from outdoor activities and historical tours to crafts, music, and delicious meals. The event brings the community together to honor Roosevelt's legacy and experience the beauty of Newcomb and the Adirondacks.

The 2025 schedule is still being developed, but here’s a look at last year’s event to give you an idea of what’s in store:
Friday, September 13th, 2024
- 2:00 p.m. – Pickle Ball Mixer at the Lilbern Yandon Memorial Ball Field. Watch these free-spirited athletes in action!
- 5:00 p.m. – Italian Dinner at Newcomb Central School (NCS).
- 6:30 p.m. – Friendly Feud Home Game in the NCS auditorium. Enjoy a hilarious time with TR as the Master of Ceremonies.
Saturday, September 14th, 2024
- 8:00-10:30 a.m. – Breakfast by the Class of 2026 at Overlook Park.
- 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. – FREE Wagon Rides into Camp Santanoni from the Santanoni Preserve parking lot. Reservations required.
- 9:00-11:00 a.m. – Kids Fishing Derby at Winslow’s Pond on 28N. Bring your own fishing pole!
- 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – Hike Goodnow Mountain and meet Mike Gooden at the Fire Tower for a nature talk.
- 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – TR Weekend Craft Fair at Overlook Park. Browse Adirondack artisans, wares, quilts, photographs, and more.
- 10:30 a.m. – ESF & Paul Smith’s Timber Sports Scrimmage featuring pole climb & axe throwing at Overlook Park.
- 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – Lunch by the Class of 2025 at Overlook Park. Car Wash and Bake Sale by Classes of 2026 & 2028 at the Newcomb Health Center.
- 12:30-2:30 p.m. – Music by Eric Peter at Overlook Park.
- 2:30 p.m. – Raffles by the Newcomb Helpers Fund and Newcomb Mountain Quilters at Overlook Park.
- 3:00-4:00 p.m. – TR visits the "Newcomb Builders~Newcomb Boats" exhibit at the Seeley Exhibit Hall.
- 5:00-6:30 p.m. – Dinner by the Classes of 2026 & 2028 at the NCS cafeteria.
- 6:00 p.m. – Bull Moose Party at the NCS auditorium. TR and Newcomb Youth & Government students host a public policy panel.
- Dusk (~8:30 p.m.) – Watch Newcomb’s spectacular fireworks display at Overlook Park.
Sunday, September 15th, 2024
- 8:00-10:30 a.m. – Breakfast by the Class of 2027 at Overlook Park.
- 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. – FREE Wagon Rides into Camp Santanoni from the Santanoni Preserve parking lot. Reservations required.
- 9:00 a.m. – Ty Yandon Memorial 5K Race for all ages, with trophies awarded for each category.
- 10:00 a.m. – Four-Person Scramble Golf Tournament at the High Peaks Golf Course. Lunch provided.
- 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. – The Newcomb Historical Tour. Board the bus at the Information Center for a tour, including a lunch stop at the Firehall.
- 3:00-4:00 p.m. – Tour the Santanoni Gate House with guide Chuck Higgerson. Enjoy lemonade and cookies after the tour.
