Hiking to Russia Lake

A gentle hike that leaves from East Bay on Big Moose Lake. Once on the trail you will have a pleasant stroll through the Pigeon Lake Wilderness as you coast along a nearly flat route to a lean-to. Please see the page for Big Moose Lake for additional details on the paddle portion of this trip.

Russia Lake in the winter

While traveling on ice presents inherent risks, this hike can be done in the winter. If you've done your research, and made sure that the ice is thick enough, then snowshoeing the same route as you would if you paddled and linking up with the hiking trail is a classic Adirondack winter trip. Because of the isolating nature of this hike, especially in the winter, be prepared for all conditions.

How to get there

This hike is only accessible by boat from Big Moose Lake. From the intersection of Route 28 and Big Moose Road in Inlet, follow Big Moose Road, then turn right on Higby Road. Follow that to the car-top boat access.
