This remote pond is probably one of the best kept secrets of the Adirondacks. And a campground on its shore means that you don't have to limit your time exploring to one day. Spend a few days paddling, fishing, birding, and just enjoying the wild nature here.
Getting there
This pond is 2.4 miles west of Raquette Lake on Uncas Road. (Please note: Uncas road is snowmobile access only during the winter, and cars and trucks are prohibited.) Access to the pond is through the Brown Tract Campground.
Paddling
Since there is direct access to the pond, this is a great place to wet a line, swim, canoe, and enjoy a remote Adirondack lake. Paddlers can explore the 146-acre pond itself or adventure into the narrow inlet.
Fishing
Brown Tract Pond might be small, but the waters are filled with fish! Both amateur anglers and fishing pros alike will surely enjoy casting a line here. Search for bass, both smallmouth and largemouth. Or, if you're lucky, you might catch an elusive brook trout!
Birding
As with many remote locations in Hamilton County, the birding is amazing. You'll find no shortage of warblers, sparrows, and flycatchers in warmer months.
